An odd, tree-like fern, Tempskya grew more or less worldwide during the Cretaceous, and could reach a height of up to 4,5 metres. Its fossils have mostly been found in the Northern Hemisphere (for example in the Czech Republic and Japan), but also in Argentina and Australia.

Its closest modern relatives are ferns in the order Polypodiales.
