Also known as the Australian tree fern, the lacy tree fern, or Cooper's tree fern, the Scaly Tree Fern (Cyathea cooperi) is a tree-fern native to Queensland in southern Australia. It is a fast-growing plant capable of reaching 15 metres in height, and typically prefers shady, moist conditions, although it can also tolerate sunny areas as long as it gets enough water. The plant is inedible, and actually somewhat poisonous if consumed. The fossil history of tree ferns similar to the Scaly Tree Fern dates back to the Late Jurassic.
