Goat family 2

A family of goats.

Goats are passive mobs found wandering most biomes in small groups. They are especially common in Extreme Hills.

In-game Information[]

Goats are slightly smaller than sheep, and have slightly less health. Like other JurassiCraft creatures they are either male or female, and billy goats can be distinguished from nanny goats by their slightly larger horns and lack of udders. However, note that gender of a goat kid is impossible to distinguish until it reaches maturity. Like normal Minecraft animals, the goats don't need to be fed to stay alive, and they reach maturity in just a few Minecraft days.

Nanny goats can be milked like cattle, but after being milked they will need to graze on grass before you can milk them again, similar to how a sheep regenerates its wool. Goats can be bred using any kind of plant-based food, as well as any plant, sapling or seeds.

Upon death, goats have a chance of dropping leather and/or either white wool or brown wool, and they always drop at least one portion of Raw Goat. Raw and Cooked Goat have roughly the same food values as Raw and Cooked Mutton.

Trivia[]

  • The three randomly generated colour schemes of JurassiCraft goats are based on those of the goats seen in Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, and Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis.

Real-world Information[]

The domestic goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) is a modern domesticated subspecies of ruminant in the family Bovidae (more specifically in the goat-antelope subfamily Caprinae). It is derived from the Beazor Ibex (Capra aegagrus aegagrus) of southwest Asia and eastern Europe. A non-castrated male goat is called a "buck" or a "billy", a female goat is called a "doe" or a "nanny", and a juvenile goat is called a "kid".

First domesticated around 10 thousand years ago, the goat is farmed for its milk, meat, hair and skin. The myth that goats will eat literally anything isn't entirely true. However, they are unspecialized browsers (as opposed to sheep and cattle, which are mostly grass-eating grazers) and also very curious, and they will nibble on most forms of plant matter to determine whether or not it is edible.

Goats are exceptionally skilled climbers (especially for ruminants), and they are often seen on steep rocks or in low-lying trees. In the wild, the Beazor Ibex is mostly found in mountainous regions, using its small, dainty hooves to navigate narrow cliff-ledges.

JP information[]

The humble domestic goat is the animal of choice for live feedings at Jurassic Park and Jurassic World, due to being a lot cheaper and less demanding to raise than a cow. Although not very substantial for a large predator like a Tyrannosaurus, goats are ideal for smaller predators like Dilophosaurus and Velociraptor.
